When it comes to picking a career, choose one that fits your personality, as this will help you feel comfortable and put you in a good position to achieve success. For instance, if you fear public speaking, you should probably NOT become a stand-up comedian! But as you navigate the work force, you may realize that you do your best work alone. If this is the case, there are plenty of career paths¹ that can help you make the most of your talents:
- Accountant – If you have a talent for working with numbers, then the various positions found in the accounting field might be right for you. Companies in virtually every industry need people who can manage the business, including working with budgets, tax codes, and financial records. Best of all, depending on the company and the position, you might even be able to work remotely!
- Graphic Designer – If pictures are worth a thousand words, then graphic designers are visual poets! They have a gift for using pictures and other visual images to do everything from conveying a variety of emotions to creating pictures for websites, company brochures, advertisements, and more.
- Medical Laboratory Technician – Technicians collect and analyze tissue and body fluid samples, in addition to working with patients. Best of all, they do it without much interference from doctors or other personnel. They rarely ever have meetings, and often times could be the only person in a laboratory.
These are just a sample of the different fields where you’ll work in solitude, as opposed to having a role that is heavy on meetings or full of giving reports in front of clients or colleagues. As you think about the next few phases of your career, be sure to research the day-to-day functions of your role, as well as how that role might change with additional training or more education
You and you alone are in charge of how your career progresses. So do all you can to make sure the type of career you choose, whether you work in a team or not, is one that matches your personality. You know yourself better than anyone else does, and NOW is the time to maximize your talents!
